Palava House

We're hiring.

Three people to help run the house, tell its stories, and pour the drinks. Full-time, in Lagos, and all part of the same small team.

Space & Programmes Lead

Full-timeAt the house, most daysReports to the Founder

One person to run the house and what happens in it. You keep our spaces alive on the ordinary afternoon and give people reasons to gather on the programmed night: hospitality, the calendar, the guests, and the hosts and volunteers who help.

  • Run the daily life of our spaces, open to close — hospitality included
  • Curate what people find in the rooms, and keep evolving how they are set
  • Build the monthly calendar from the recurring formats
  • Find, invite and host guests; run RSVPs and access
  • Recruit, brief and direct hosts, volunteers and guest hosts

Real interest and experience in third-space hospitality: you have run the kinds of places people go to simply be with other people, and produced the programmes that happened in them.

Media & Archive Lead

Full-timeHybrid, LagosReports to the Founder

Everything that leaves the room, and everything that survives the year. You document the house, publish what deserves to travel, keep the archive honest, and handle our digital promotion while keeping publishing independent from it.

  • Photograph and film the programmes and the ordinary days between them
  • Publish across the Journal, Instagram, YouTube, newsletter and audio
  • Run digital marketing, kept separate in mind from the editorial work
  • Build the Palava Archive — dated, identified, permissioned, findable
  • Recruit, brief and direct volunteers: shooters, editors, writers

Good with a camera. Better with people. Judged not by follower counts, but by whether what you publish would still be worth reading if nobody could attend.

Bartender

Full-timeAt the houseEvenings and weekends

The drink in someone’s hand matters. You run the bar at Palava House — cocktails, tea, and a short list done well — for rooms of eight as often as rooms of thirty. Slowly, and with the volume of the room in mind.

  • Run the bar on ordinary evenings, programme nights and After Dark
  • Build and keep a short, seasonal list: cocktails, non-alcoholic, tea
  • Stock, prep, cost and close — cleanly, every night
  • Know regulars by name and by drink
  • Work with the kitchen on small bites and Open Table editions

Two years or more behind a bar you were proud of. Calm on a full night, generous on a quiet one, and interested in the music playing while you work.

How to apply

One email, three things. Put the role in the subject line.

  1. A short note on why this house and not another.
  2. Something you have done: a space you ran, a programme you made happen, something you shot or wrote, or a drink you’re known for. Links are fine.
  3. A CV, if you have one.

We read everything. If it’s a fit, we’ll invite you to the house.
